Kumbh Mela Camps 2027: How to Choose and Book the Right Camp
Kumbh Mela camps and luxury camps for Haridwar 2027, Nashik 2027 and Ujjain 2028 — which camp site to pick, which tent to book, what a good luxury camp should give you, what to ask before you pay, and when to book.

For most pilgrims the best way to experience the Kumbh is from inside it. Kumbh Mela camps put you in the tent city among the akharas, the bhajans and the morning aarti, a short walk from the river on the bathing days. Three Kumbhs fall in the next two years — the Haridwar Ardh Kumbh (14 January – 20 April 2027), the Nashik–Trimbakeshwar Simhastha (Amrit Snans in August and September 2027) and the Ujjain Simhastha (27 March – 27 May 2028) — and camps for all three are booking now. This guide covers how to choose one and how to book it without surprises.

Step 1: Pick the Kumbh and your snan date
Everything else follows from the date you want to bathe. Camps fill first for the Amrit Snan days — in Haridwar that is 6 March, 8 March and 14 April 2027, with Makar Sankranti (14 January) and Mauni Amavasya (6 February) close behind. In Nashik the Amrit Snans are 2 August, 31 August and 11 September 2027 (12 September at Trimbakeshwar). If your dates are flexible, the days between the big snans are calmer and easier to book.
Step 2: Choose the camp site
Where the camp stands matters more than anything inside it, because on snan days vehicles stop well short of the ghats and everyone walks. For the Haridwar Kumbh our camps are at four sites:
- Bairagi Camp — the main Kumbh tent city, where the akharas and Kalpwasis stay. Best if you want to be in the thick of the mela.
- Neel Dhara — on the far bank of the Ganga, facing Har Ki Pauri. Quieter, with river views.
- Daksh Dweep, Kankhal — beside the Kumbh parking and the old temples of Kankhal. Easiest if you are driving in.
- Rishikesh — on the Kumbh corridor, for pilgrims who want the Kumbh and Rishikesh's ashrams and Triveni Ghat together.
For the Simhastha, our camps are in Nashik's Tapovan–Panchavati area near Ramkund, and in the Ujjain Mela area near Ram Ghat on the Kshipra.
Step 3: Choose the tent
Kumbh Mela camps sell rooms by tent type. Ours come in three, all with attached bathrooms and hot water:
- Deluxe — twin or double beds, wooden furniture, a sit-out. The value choice.
- Luxury — a four-poster canopy king bed and more space. The comfort choice.
- Royal — our largest tent, on a raised wooden deck with its own sit-out and a wood-panelled bathroom. The choice for families and long stays.
Our guide to Deluxe vs Luxury vs Royal tents goes through each one with photos.
Step 4: Ask these questions before you pay
- Is the bathroom attached? Shared blocks are a very different stay.
- How far is the nearest ghat on foot on a snan day, when roads are closed?
- What is included — meals, tea, heater or blankets in winter, drinking water?
- Can I see the exact location pin? A real camp will share it.
- When do I pay? We quote the rate for your dates and you pay at the camp — nothing is charged to ask.
Step 5: Book early for the big days
For the Amrit Snan days, book two to three months ahead; for a Kalpwasi stay of a month, ask as early as you can so the desk can hold the same tent for you. Groups of 10 or more should ask for several tents together — the desk can arrange adjoining tents and a common meal time.
What a good luxury Kumbh camp gives you
The tent
Look for a Swiss cottage tent — a framed tent with a proper door, a raised floor and real furniture — rather than a dormitory shamiana. Inside you should find a double or king bed with a mattress, side tables, lights, charging points and enough bedding for Haridwar's January and February nights, which drop close to 5°C.
The bathroom
This is the biggest difference between a luxury camp and an ordinary one. Insist on an attached bathroom with a western toilet and hot water. Shared blocks are fine for young travellers, not for families or elderly parents.
Food
Kumbh camps serve sattvic vegetarian food — no onion or garlic in many — with breakfast, lunch and dinner at set times. Tea is usually available through the day.
Getting to the ghat
On the snan days vehicles are stopped well before Har Ki Pauri. A good camp tells you honestly how far it is from the nearest ghat, and helps with walking routes or e-rickshaws where they are allowed.
Safety and comfort
- 24-hour security and lighting on the camp paths
- A heater or extra blankets in winter
- A locker or lockable tent for valuables
- A desk that picks up the phone
