Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 officially begins with the flag hoisting on 31 October 2026, but most people will come for the three big baths in August and September 2027. That is peak monsoon in Nashik. Rain, full rivers, green hills around Trimbak, and a lot of slippery steps. Kumbh Mela pilgrims who wait till July to plan usually end up staying far from the ghats, so it makes sense to start now.
We wrote this Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 travel guide for families who call us with the same questions every time. When are the baths, Nashik or Trimbak, how do we get there, where do we stay. You'll find all of that below, plus a few things people usually learn the hard way.
Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027: Dates and Important Information
Nashik gets the Simhastha once in 12 years, when Guru (Jupiter) enters Simha rashi. The last one was in 2015. For Kumbh Mela Nashik 2027 the Maharashtra government has already put out the main schedule.
Main Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 dates
| Date | Event | Where |
|---|---|---|
| 31 October 2026 | Dhwajarohan (flag hoisting), official start | Trimbakeshwar, Ram Kund, Panchavati |
| 29 July 2027 | Nagar Pradakshina | Nashik |
| 2 August 2027 | First Amrit Snan (Ashadh Amavasya) | Ram Kund and Trimbakeshwar |
| 31 August 2027 | Second Amrit Snan (Shravan Amavasya) | Ram Kund and Trimbakeshwar |
| 11 September 2027 | Third Amrit Snan | Ramkund, Nashik |
| 12 September 2027 | Third Amrit Snan | Kushavarta, Trimbakeshwar |
| 24 July 2028 | Flag lowered, official close | Nashik and Trimbakeshwar |
On paper the Nashik Kumbh Mela runs for close to two years. In practice the crowd builds from late July and peaks around the three Amrit Snans. There are also many smaller parvani snan days in between, which are far easier if you have elders or kids with you.
Tithi dates sometimes move by a day, and timings get changed for crowd reasons. Check the official notice a week or so before you leave.
Kumbh Mela crowd management at a glance
The state expects crores of Kumbh Mela pilgrims across Nashik and Trimbak. On Amrit Snan days Kumbh Mela crowd management usually means private vehicles stopped outside town, one-way walking routes to the ghat and holding areas where you wait for your batch to go down. Expect it to be slow. This is the main reason we push people to book a room within walking distance.
Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 Shahi Snan Dates
Most official notices now say "Amrit Snan" instead of Shahi Snan. It's the same bath, the name was changed. People searching online still type Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 Shahi Snan dates, so we've used both words on this page.
- 2 August 2027, first Amrit Snan. Ashadh Amavasya. The Akharas go down to the water for the first time in this Kumbh, and the crowd is very heavy.
- 31 August 2027, second Amrit Snan. Shravan Amavasya. Shravan is already a rush month at Trimbakeshwar temple because of Shiva devotees, so Trimbak gets especially packed on this one.
- 11 and 12 September 2027, third Amrit Snan. Nashik bathes on the 11th at Ramkund, Trimbak on the 12th at Kushavarta. A few families stay two nights and attend both.
Nashik is the only Kumbh split across two towns. The Vaishnava Akharas take their Shahi Snan at Ram Kund Nashik, on the Godavari River in Panchavati. The Shaiva Akharas, Naga sadhus included, bathe at Kushavarta Kund in Trimbakeshwar, near the spot where the Godavari River starts.
Pick your side before you book anything. Ramkund if you want the Vaishnava processions and the old city. Trimbak if you want to see the Naga sadhus and do darshan at the Jyotirlinga the same day.
Why Is Nashik Kumbh Mela Important?
The Puranas say that during the Samudra Manthan, drops of amrit fell at Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik, which is why the Kumbh moves between these four cities. Devotees believe a dip in the river during the Kumbh removes sins and helps towards moksha. That belief is what Kumbh Mela bathing is about, and it's why people walk for kilometres in the rain for a few minutes in the water.
For many people Nashik also means Ram. The Ramayana places Ram, Sita and Lakshman in the Dandakaranya forest during their exile, and Panchavati in Nashik is where they are said to have lived. Ramkund is believed to be where Ram bathed. Sita Gufa, a small cave nearby, is linked with Sita. A lot of families who come for the Nashik Kumbh Mela treat it as a Ram yatra as much as a Kumbh.
Then there is Trimbakeshwar temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. The Godavari River rises in the Brahmagiri hill right behind the town, and people call it the Dakshin Ganga. Bathing near the source and then going for darshan is, for many devotees, the main reason to make the trip.
The mela also has its own life outside the rituals. Akhara camps, bhajans late into the night, pravachans, langars. By August the whole town feels like one long Nashik pilgrimage, whether or not you are very religious.

Where Is Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 Held?
In two places, Nashik city and Trimbakeshwar, roughly 28 to 30 km apart by road.
Nashik
The Nashik side of the mela is centred on Panchavati, on the Godavari River, with Ramkund at the middle of it. The old town around it (temples, small lanes, the flower and puja markets) becomes the main mela area. Most Nashik hotels are in the city, so this is the easiest base for families.
Trimbakeshwar
Trimbak is a small temple town in the hills to the west, built around Trimbakeshwar temple. The Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela includes the Shaiva Akhara processions and the Shahi Snan at Kushavarta Kund. Rooms are limited because the town itself is small. It also gets a lot of rain in August, and the Brahmagiri side can be misty for days, so anyone coming for the Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela should carry proper rain gear.
Ram Kund and Godavari River
Ramkund is a stone tank built into the Godavari River in Panchavati and the main bathing ghat on the Nashik side. On Amrit Snan days the Vaishnava Akharas go first and the public is let in after. On ordinary evenings the Godavari aarti at Ram Kund Nashik is peaceful and worth sitting through. Kumbh Mela bathing carries on here every day of the mela, not only on the big dates.
How to Reach Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027
This section covers how to reach Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 by air, train and road. Keep in mind that the main bathing period is in the monsoon, and delays are normal.
By Air
Nashik airport at Ozar is about 20 km from the city, but there are only a few flights. Most people fly to Mumbai (around 170 km) or Pune (around 210 km) and continue by road. Mumbai to Nashik usually takes four to five hours by car. Kasara ghat can slow things down a lot in heavy rain.
By Train
Nashik Road station is 8 to 10 km from Panchavati and has trains from Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Bhopal, Nagpur and many other places. From Mumbai it's around three to four hours. Railways normally announce Kumbh specials for Kumbh Mela pilgrims closer to the dates, so book as soon as the window opens.
By Road
Nashik is on the Mumbai–Agra highway. MSRTC and private buses run from Mumbai, Pune, Aurangabad, Shirdi and Surat. Shirdi is about 90 km away, and plenty of people add Sai Baba darshan to the trip.
For an Amrit Snan, reach at least a day early. Of all the Kumbh Mela travel tips we give, this is the one people ignore most. Roads are diverted and private cars are parked outside the city.
Getting Around Nashik During Kumbh Mela
Kumbh Mela transportation is the most tiring part for Kumbh Mela pilgrims. On big days there are shuttle buses from the outer parking areas, vehicle entry near Ramkund is stopped, and you walk a lot. MSRTC runs buses between Nashik and Trimbak all the time and more are expected for the mela. On normal days autos and shared jeeps are easy to find. On Amrit Snan days Kumbh Mela transportation between the two towns is packed from very early morning.
Our suggestion on Kumbh Mela transportation: don't drive into the old city on a Shahi Snan day. Park outside and take the shuttle, or stay somewhere you can walk from.
Where to Stay During Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027
Kumbh Mela accommodation in Nashik, and even more in Trimbak, gets booked months before the Amrit Snans. This table gives a rough idea of where to stay in Nashik during Kumbh Mela 2027.
| Area | Good for | Distance to Ramkund |
|---|---|---|
| Panchavati / Old Nashik | Walking to the ghat | 0–2 km |
| College Road / Gangapur Road | Mid-range and premium hotels | 4–6 km |
| Nashik Road | Train arrivals, budget rooms | 8–10 km |
| Trimbakeshwar town | Kushavarta, Shaiva Akharas, temple | 28–30 km |
| Igatpuri / Shirdi | Longer trips, quieter stays | 45–90 km |
For a single Shahi Snan at Ramkund, Panchavati or the old city is the most practical answer to where to stay in Nashik during Kumbh Mela 2027. For Trimbak, stay in the town itself or look at hotels near Trimbakeshwar along the Nashik road. Families who want more comfort mostly pick College Road or Gangapur Road, where the bigger Nashik hotels are, and use the shuttle. If you are there for the Shaiva snan, hotels near Trimbakeshwar make the most sense.
Book your Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 accommodation three to four months before the August and September baths if you can. We also block Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 accommodation for groups like bhajan mandals, temple trusts and large families travelling together.
Hotels in Nashik
Nashik hotels go from basic lodges near Nashik Road station to business hotels on College Road and Gangapur Road, with a few vineyard resorts outside town. We check all our Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 hotels before listing them and give you the actual distance to Ramkund. Some Nashik hotels will serve tea or early breakfast for guests going for the dawn snan if you ask the night before.
Hotels Near Trimbakeshwar
There aren't many hotels near Trimbakeshwar and most are small guesthouses or lodges within walking distance of the temple and Kushavarta. For the Shaiva Shahi Snan they go first. If Trimbak is your plan, book hotels near Trimbakeshwar before anything else.
Budget Accommodation
Budget Kumbh Mela accommodation is available if you book early. Options include lodges around Nashik Road, dormitories, and simple Kumbh Mela accommodation run by local trusts and samajs. Tent cities are also expected near the mela area. Nothing fancy, but clean and near a bus stop.
Luxury Accommodation
At the top end, Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 hotels include business hotels, vineyard resorts and a few private villas. They suit senior citizens, families with small children and NRI guests who want a car with a driver. Some can also arrange a day trip to Trimbakeshwar temple. Our own Simhastha camp in Tapovan–Panchavati has Deluxe, Luxury and Royal tents with attached bathrooms, a short walk from Ramkund.
Ashrams and Dharamshalas
A lot of pilgrims prefer ashrams and dharamshalas in Panchavati near the Godavari River, or in Trimbak close to Trimbakeshwar temple. They are simple and cheap and near the ghats. Some have a fixed routine and gate timings, so ask before you book. You can book directly or through us.
Best Places to Visit During Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027
If you have a free day between baths, these are the Nashik tourist attractions our guests visit most. All are close by and fit easily into a Nashik pilgrimage.
Trimbakeshwar Temple
Trimbakeshwar temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas and is built in black stone. The lingam inside has three small faces for Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. During the mela the darshan line can take hours, so go at opening time and check the dress code for the inner sanctum.
Ram Kund
Even if you do your snan at Trimbak, go to Ram Kund Nashik one evening for the aarti. Diyas on the water, bells from the Panchavati temples, a very different mood from Shahi Snan morning.
Panchavati
Panchavati is named after five old banyan trees and is where Ram is believed to have stayed during the exile. Kalaram temple and Kapaleshwar temple are both here. It's the nicest part of Nashik travel on foot and only a few minutes from Ram Kund Nashik.

Sita Gufa
A small cave in Panchavati linked with Sita. The entrance is narrow and you go down a few steps into a tight space, so skip it if closed spaces bother you. It doesn't take long, and families on a Nashik pilgrimage usually include it.
Other Nashik tourist attractions if you have extra time are the Pandavleni caves, Someshwar waterfall (at its best in the monsoon), the vineyards for family members who aren't there for the Kumbh, and Shirdi.
Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 Travel Tips
These Kumbh Mela travel tips come from problems we have seen pilgrims run into. Read them as the practical side of Nashik travel during the mela.
What to Carry
A raincoat or poncho (an umbrella is useless in a crowd), quick-dry clothes, one extra set for after the snan, a small towel, and slippers with a proper grip because the ghat steps get slippery. Your regular medicines, a small first-aid kit, a power bank and a photocopy of your ID. Keep a zip-lock pouch for your phone.
Safety Tips
Kumbh Mela bathing during the monsoon needs care. The Godavari River can rise and run fast after a heavy spell of rain. Bathe only at the ghats the administration has opened, hold the chains, and follow what the water police and lifeguards say. Keep kids close, especially at Ram Kund Nashik on Shahi Snan days. Decide on a meeting point with your group before going into any crowd, something easy to spot like a temple gate or a big signboard. Keep money and phone in an inner zip pocket.
Managing Crowds
Kumbh Mela crowd management works when pilgrims cooperate with it. Reach a day before any Amrit Snan. Go down to the ghat very early, or wait for the afternoon when it thins out. Stick to the marked route even if it looks longer, because Kumbh Mela crowd management depends on people doing exactly that. With elderly parents, choose a regular parvani snan day over a Shahi Snan. It is the same Godavari River with a fraction of the people.
Booking Accommodation in Advance
This comes up in every list of Kumbh Mela travel tips for a reason. Rooms near Ramkund and in Trimbak are gone first for the August and September baths, and rates go up every week. Book your Kumbh Mela accommodation as soon as your date is fixed. You'll get better cancellation terms and a better chance at Nashik hotels near the ghats.
We will keep this Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 travel guide updated as details on routes, passes and facilities are announced.
