Hotels in Badrinath — Hotel Booking and other information

Badrinath is the one Char Dham shrine you can drive right up to. The town sits at about 3,100 m on the Alaknanda in Chamoli district, between the Nar and Narayan ranges with Neelkanth peak behind the temple, and since there is no trek at the end, most pilgrims sleep in Badrinath itself. That makes the choice among the hotels in Badrinath a short one but an important one: the town is small, the season is short, and the darshan queue forms before dawn, so where your room is decides how easy the morning is.

Pulp Hotels lists three verified stays in Badrinath, each with real photos and room details: Hotel Mangalam Badrinath by Oxygen Hotels, Hotel Divine Ganga and Hotel Shivkadamb.

Where to stay in Badrinath, area by area

AreaWhere it isSuits
Temple side and Tapt KundAcross the footbridge, by the temple stepsThe earliest darshan on foot; dharamshalas and simple guesthouses, busy and loud in the season

If every room in town is taken, or an elder in the group struggles with the altitude, sleep lower down at Joshimath, about 45 km below, and drive up for the day.

Hotels near Badrinath Temple and 3 star hotels in Badrinath

Two of the three are 3 star hotels in Badrinath: Hotel Divine Ganga by Badrish Lake and Hotel Shivkadamb by the bus stand, with attached bathrooms, geysers and a vegetarian kitchen. Hotel Mangalam is the premium choice. None of them sits on the temple steps, and that is normal: the hotels nearest Badrinath Temple are dharamshalas and small guesthouses across the footbridge, while the hotels with heating, parking and a restaurant stand on the town side, a walk of a few minutes to a quarter of an hour. Tapt Kund and Narad Kund, where the temple's idol is said to have been recovered from the river, are just below the steps.

When Badrinath is open

The temple opens around April or May and closes around November; the exact dates are announced each year, the opening date on Basant Panchami and the closing date on Vijayadashami. Outside those months the town is snowed in and empty, and the deity's winter worship moves down the valley to Pandukeshwar and Joshimath. May and June are the busiest weeks, with school holidays and the first rush of the yatra. July and August bring the monsoon, when landslides can close the Alaknanda valley road for hours or days. September and October are clear and cool, the best weeks for views, and the last days before closing draw a second crowd. Book early for May, June, September and October.

Getting to Badrinath

The road runs from Rishikesh, about 295 km away, through Devprayag, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, Chamoli and Joshimath. Most people break the drive with a night at Joshimath or Rudraprayag rather than doing it in one day. The nearest railway stations are Rishikesh and Haridwar, and the nearest airport is Jolly Grant at Dehradun. Char Dham registration on the Uttarakhand tourism portal is mandatory, and drivers should avoid the hill roads after dark. Vehicles park near the bus stand; the bazaar and the temple side are on foot.

What to know before you stay

  • Altitude and cold. At about 3,100 m nights are cold even in June. Rest on the day you arrive, drink water, and check that the room has a geyser and heating or extra blankets.
  • Food. Badrinath is a temple town and its kitchens are vegetarian. Hotel restaurants are the dependable option late in the evening.
  • Cash and signal. There are ATMs, but they run out on busy days and mobile networks can be patchy. Carry some cash from Joshimath.
  • Rooms for groups. Family rooms for three or four are common; confirm whether an extra bed is a real bed or a mattress.
  • Road closures. Keep a spare day and pick a stay with clear cancellation terms.

Things to do near your hotel in Badrinath

  • Badrinath Temple and Tapt Kund — pilgrims bathe in the hot spring below the steps before darshan. The water is hot and the steps slippery.
  • Brahma Kapal — the flat rock on the riverbank where families perform rites for their ancestors.
  • Mana village — about 3 km up the road, the last village before the border, with Vyas Gufa, Ganesh Gufa and Bheem Pul over the Saraswati.
  • Vasudhara Falls — a walk from Mana across open meadow, best started early.
  • Mata Murti temple and Charan Paduka — short outings on either side of town for a second morning.

Plan a full day rather than a stop: the temple, Tapt Kund and Mana do not fit into a few hours. Our Badrinath temple travel guide covers darshan and the aarti in detail, and the Kedarnath and Badrinath do dham guide plans the two shrines together.

Nearby stays on the Badrinath road

Lower down the same valley, Joshimath has the most rooms and stays open all year, and Govindghat is the start of the Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib treks. Auli sits above Joshimath. Pilgrims combining Badrinath with Kedarnath stay at Guptkashi, and most trips begin in Rishikesh or Haridwar.
