Hotels in Dehradun — Hotel Booking and other information
Dehradun is the capital of Uttarakhand and the valley town most journeys into the Garhwal hills pass through — by train from Delhi, by flight into Jolly Grant, or by road on the way up to Mussoorie and the Char Dham. People stay here for very different reasons: a night before the hills, a school visit, government work, or a slow weekend in the Doon Valley. Which of the hotels in Dehradun suits you depends mostly on the area, and the city is spread out enough for that to matter.
Pulp Hotels lists verified places to stay in Dehradun with real photos and room details, and the team is on WhatsApp if your plans change on the road.
Where to stay in Dehradun, area by area
| Area | Where it is | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Rajpur Road | The main road north from the Clock Tower towards Mussoorie | Restaurants, cafés and shopping on the doorstep; an easy start up the hill |
| Malsi, Jakhan and the upper Rajpur side | The northern edge of the city, at the foot of the Mussoorie road | Quieter, greener stays with views of the hills, and the shortest drive to Mussoorie |
| Clock Tower and Paltan Bazaar | The old centre | Markets and budget rooms, walking distance from the railway station |
| Near the ISBT, Saharanpur Road | South-west of the centre | Early buses to the hills, Delhi and Haridwar |
| Haridwar Road and the Jolly Grant side | South-east, towards the airport and Rishikesh | Early flights, or a stay between Dehradun, Rishikesh and Haridwar |
The centre is busy and the traffic is slow at office hours, so a hotel far from where you need to be costs time. For Mussoorie the next morning, stay on the Rajpur side; for an early flight, the airport is about 25 km south-east of the city, closer to Rishikesh than to the Clock Tower.
Hotels in Dehradun on Pulp Hotels
| Hotel | Area | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Shivoham Retreat | Jakhan Jodi Road, north Dehradun | Luxury double or twin rooms for up to three, breakfast included, free cancellation up to 24 hours before check-in |
| White Flower Dehradun | Mauza Malsi, on the Mussoorie side | Air-conditioned rooms with free Wi-Fi; rate on request |
Both are on the northern side of the city, the side to stay on when Mussoorie or a quieter night is the point. A Dehradun hotel room here is a short drive from Rajpur Road's restaurants.
Rooms in Dehradun for families, business and long stays
Rooms in Dehradun are booked by three kinds of guest. Families on the way to the hills want a room for three or four and parking. Business and government visitors want quiet, Wi-Fi and a short drive to the Secretariat or the industrial areas. Parents visiting the boarding schools — the Doon School, Welham and the others — book weeks ahead for school events and parents' weekends, when the city fills. Unlike Haridwar, Dehradun has no restriction on food, so most hotels serve both vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals.
Dehradun hotel price and the busy seasons
The Dehradun hotel price follows the hills more than the city. Summer, from April to June, brings the Mussoorie crowd through town and the Char Dham season begins; long weekends and school events fill rooms too. The monsoon, July to September, is very wet here, and landslides on the hill roads can hold travellers in Dehradun for an extra night. October to March is calm, with clear days and cold mornings. Each hotel page shows the price for your dates.
Dehradun hotel booking: getting here
Dehradun railway station, close to Paltan Bazaar, has direct trains from Delhi, including the Shatabdi and the Vande Bharat. Buses run from the ISBT to Delhi, Haridwar, Rishikesh and the hills. Jolly Grant Airport, near Doiwala, has flights from Delhi, Mumbai and other cities, and a taxi into the centre takes around 45 minutes to an hour. Plan your Dehradun hotel booking around how you arrive and where you are going next, and your Dehradun room booking around the first morning.
Dehradun for Mussoorie and the Char Dham
Mussoorie is about 35 km up the hill from Rajpur Road, roughly an hour's drive. Rishikesh is about 45 km away and Haridwar a little further, both an hour to an hour and a half by road. For the Char Dham, the road through Mussoorie leads towards Barkot and Yamunotri, and helicopter services for the yatra fly from the helipad at Sahastradhara, so many yatris spend their first or last night here. See hotels in Mussoorie, hotels in Rishikesh and hotels in Haridwar for the next stop.
