The lanes around Har Ki Pauri are narrow, and on busy days cars are stopped well short of the ghat, so a hotel in the old city often means the last stretch on foot or by cycle-rickshaw. Bhupatwala, the stretch towards Rishikesh with Bharat Mata Mandir and the Sapt Rishi ashrams, has larger buildings and easier parking, and an auto ride gets you to the ghat.
