Quick answer: Prayagraj held its Maha Kumbh from 13 January to 26 February 2025, so there is no Kumbh at Prayagraj in 2027. Prayagraj's tent cities return every year for the Magh Mela at the Sangam, and its next Ardh Kumbh is expected around 2031. If you want to stay in a Kumbh tent soon, the next Kumbhs are the Ardh Kumbh 2027 at Haridwar (14 January – 20 April 2027), the Nashik Simhastha (Amrit Snans August–September 2027) and the Ujjain Simhastha (27 March – 27 May 2028). How the Prayagraj Kumbh cycle works
Prayagraj, at the Sangam of the Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati, hosts a full Kumbh every twelve years and an Ardh Kumbh six years after each. The last Ardh Kumbh was in 2019 and the Maha Kumbh in 2025. Every year in the month of Magh (January–February) the Magh Mela brings a smaller tent city to the same sandbanks, where Kalpwasis spend the month by the river.
What Prayagraj's Kumbh tent cities are like
During a Kumbh, the Prayagraj Mela area becomes a temporary city laid out in sectors on the riverbed, with pontoon bridges across the Ganga. Accommodation ranges from the akharas' and religious organisations' camps, to government tent cities, to private luxury camps with cottage-style tents and attached bathrooms. As at every Kumbh, the most important question is the walk from your tent to the Sangam on the bathing days, when vehicles are stopped far away.

If you missed the 2025 Maha Kumbh, the Kumbh tent experience is next available at Haridwar, Nashik and Ujjain. - Ujjain 2028: the Simhastha Mela area, near Ram Ghat.
Haridwar or Prayagraj: what is different
Haridwar's Kumbh is on the Ganga as it leaves the hills, centred on Har Ki Pauri rather than a river confluence, and the mela spreads along the river from Kankhal to Rishikesh rather than across one huge sandbank. It runs in winter and spring, so nights are cold in January and February — warm bedding matters more than at a summer Kumbh. Our packing checklist covers it.
