Hotels in Guptkashi — Hotel Booking and other information
Guptkashi is the practical base for Kedarnath. It sits at about 1,320 m in Rudraprayag district, roughly an hour and a half below Sonprayag, and it has what the towns closer to the trailhead do not: more rooms, more restaurants, fuel, and a low enough altitude to sleep well before a hard day's walking.
The route from here runs Guptkashi to Sonprayag, where private vehicles stop, then a shared jeep to Gaurikund and roughly 16 km on foot to the temple. Kedarnath helicopters fly from helipads around Guptkashi itself, such as Deosal, and from Phata and Sersi further up, so the town is also the base for most travellers flying rather than trekking.
Pulp Hotels lists two verified properties: Shree Kaidar Villa Barasu Guptkashi at Sersi near Ukhimath, and Shri Tritham Residency at Byung, Korkhitalli, in the Guptkashi–Phata area.

3 star hotels in Guptkashi
Both hotels Pulp lists here are 3 star hotels in Guptkashi: rooms with attached bathrooms and hot water, a restaurant, parking for the vehicle you leave behind while you go up, and power backup for the evenings the line goes down. For a pilgrim on the Kedarnath route that is the level that matters; the few luxury resorts in the valley add views and space, not an easier morning.

Where to stay around Guptkashi
Guptkashi town
Close to the Vishwanath temple, the market and food. The most convenient option if you are without a vehicle.
Sersi and Ukhimath
Quieter, with valley views, and near the Sersi helipad. Ukhimath is the winter seat of the Kedarnath deity and worth a look if you have an afternoon.
Phata
Further along towards Sonprayag, which shortens the morning drive, and where the main Kedarnath helicopter services operate from.
Getting to Guptkashi
From Rishikesh or Haridwar the road runs through Devprayag, Srinagar, Rudraprayag and up the Mandakini valley. The nearest airport is Jolly Grant at Dehradun and the nearest railhead is Rishikesh or Haridwar. Allow a full day from Haridwar. Char Dham registration on the Uttarakhand tourism portal is mandatory before you travel.
When to go
The season follows Kedarnath: the temple opens in late April or early May and closes in October or November. May, June, September and October are busiest. July and August bring monsoon rain and landslides on the Mandakini valley road. Guptkashi is lower than the towns above it, so it stays comparatively mild, but nights are still cold.
Around Guptkashi
The Kashi Vishwanath temple in Guptkashi is the main shrine in town, with the Ardh Narishwar temple beside it and a spring feeding the tank between them. Ukhimath, a short drive away, is the winter seat of the Kedarnath deity — the Omkareshwar temple there is where the idol is kept once Kedarnath closes, which makes it worth visiting even outside the season. Kalimath is another short detour. Triyuginarayan, further along towards Sonprayag, is held to be where Shiva and Parvati were married and has become a popular stop.
These fill an afternoon well if you have arrived early and want to acclimatise before the trek rather than sit in a room. With a spare day, Chopta and the walk to Tungnath are across the valley; our Tungnath and Chandrashila guide covers it, and Kedarnath from Guptkashi covers the trek and the helicopter.
Budget rooms and group stays
Guptkashi runs a wider price range than anywhere closer to the trailhead, which is much of the reason to stay here. Group and family rooms are standard. The things worth confirming at any price are a working geyser, whether dinner is served after a late arrival, breakfast timing for a pre-dawn departure, and secure parking — many guests leave their vehicle here for a day or two while they go up.
What to check before booking
- How far the property is from Sonprayag, if you have an early start.
- Room occupancy — group rooms are the norm on this route.
- Whether meals are included, and how early breakfast is served.
- Parking, since vehicles are often left here while guests go up.
- Power backup and hot water.
- Cancellation terms, given weather closures above Sonprayag.
Nearby stays on the Kedarnath route
Closest to the trailhead is Gaurikund and Kedarnath. Travellers continuing to Badrinath go on through Joshimath and Govindghat.

Can I fly to Kedarnath from Guptkashi?

About 30 km by road to Sonprayag, a shuttle to Gaurikund, then roughly 16 km on foot to the temple.
How do I book a hotel in Guptkashi?

What is the hotel room price in Guptkashi?
