Rishikesh Camps for Kumbh Mela Haridwar 2027: Stay by the Ganga

The entrance to Triveni Ghat in Rishikesh

Quick answer: Rishikesh is part of the Haridwar Kumbh area, and a Rishikesh Kumbh camp suits pilgrims who want the Kumbh and Rishikesh's ashrams, yoga and Ganga aarti on the same trip. It is about 25 km upstream of Haridwar, so plan the snan-day journey carefully — on Amrit Snan days (6 March, 8 March and 14 April 2027) many choose to bathe at Triveni Ghat in Rishikesh, or travel to Haridwar the evening before. Pulp Hotels runs a Kumbh camp in Rishikesh; rates are on request and you pay at the camp.

Why stay in Rishikesh for the Kumbh?

Haridwar during the Ardh Kumbh (14 January – 20 April 2027) is the centre of the mela and the busiest place in Uttarakhand. Rishikesh, upstream, is part of the Kumbh's wider area and has its own ghats where pilgrims bathe, but it is calmer. A Rishikesh base gives you:

  • Triveni Ghat, where the evening Ganga aarti draws large crowds, and other ghats along the river for a quieter dip.
  • Rishikesh's ashrams, with satsang, kirtan and meditation through the day.
  • Yoga — Rishikesh calls itself the yoga capital of the world, and classes run every morning across town.
  • Cleaner, colder water and fewer crowds on ordinary days.

Getting to Haridwar for the snan

On Amrit Snan days, traffic between Rishikesh and Haridwar is controlled and vehicles stop well short of Har Ki Pauri. If bathing at Har Ki Pauri on the snan day itself matters to you, consider one night in Haridwar — at a hotel near the ghat or one of our Haridwar camps — and the rest of your stay in Rishikesh. On ordinary days the drive takes under an hour.

Getting to Rishikesh

Jolly Grant airport near Dehradun is the closest airport, roughly half an hour's drive from Rishikesh. Yog Nagari Rishikesh station has a growing number of trains; Haridwar Junction has many more, and taxis and buses connect the two. During the Kumbh, special buses run along the Haridwar–Rishikesh corridor.

Our Rishikesh camp

The camp has the same three tents as our Haridwar camps — Deluxe, Luxury with a four-poster king bed, and the larger Royal on a raised deck — all with attached bathrooms and hot water. Sattvic vegetarian meals are served. January and February nights are cold in Rishikesh, so ask the desk about heaters and blankets, and pack warm layers (our packing checklist has the full list).

A sample three-day plan

  1. Day 1: arrive, settle into the camp, evening aarti at Triveni Ghat.
  2. Day 2: morning yoga, a dip at a Rishikesh ghat, an afternoon at an ashram satsang.
  3. Day 3: early drive to Haridwar for a snan at Har Ki Pauri on a non-peak day, the Mansa Devi or Chandi Devi temple, and back to Rishikesh.
