The Ardh Kumbh 2027 Haridwar — the Kumbh Mela Haridwar 2027, held six years after the 2021 Kumbh and run on the scale of a full Kumbh — begins on Makar Sankranti, 14 January 2027, and ends on Chaitra Purnima, 20 April 2027. Over those 97 days crores of pilgrims will bathe in the Ganga at Har Ki Pauri and the ghats around it. If you are planning to be there, the single most important decision after your dates is where you stay.

Ardh Kumbh 2027 Haridwar snan dates

The Uttarakhand government has announced ten bathing days. The three Amrit Snan days, when the akharas process to the river, draw the largest crowds.

Why your stay matters more at the Kumbh

On the big snan days the police close roads around Har Ki Pauri to vehicles, often from the night before. Pilgrims who stay far out spend hours walking in crowds. Pilgrims who stay close walk to the ghat before dawn, bathe, and are back for breakfast. That is why rooms within walking distance of Har Ki Pauri are the first to sell out — often months ahead.

Your four options

1. Luxury camps

Kumbh camps are the classic way to experience the mela. A good luxury camp gives you a Swiss cottage tent with a real bed, an attached bathroom and hot water, sattvic meals and help getting to the ghat. You live inside the atmosphere of the Kumbh — the bhajans, the akharas, the evening aarti — rather than visiting it.

2. Hotels near Har Ki Pauri

Hotels suit families, elderly pilgrims and anyone who wants a solid roof, a lift and room service. Luxury hotels in Haridwar and budget hotels near the ghats both fill fast for Makar Sankranti, Mauni Amavasya and the Amrit Snan days.

3. Ashrams

Ashram stays are simple and peaceful, with satsang and sattvic food. Expect gate timings and house rules.

4. Homestays

A homestay puts you with a local Haridwar family — home-cooked food, hosts who know the back lanes on snan days, and often the best value at peak dates.

When to book

Book as soon as you know your snan date. For the Amrit Snan days (6 March, 8 March and 14 April 2027) and Mauni Amavasya (6 February), book at least two to three months ahead. Weekdays between the big snan days are calmer and cheaper.

Which snan date suits you

The three Amrit Snans are the spectacle: the akharas process to Har Ki Pauri in a fixed order, the ghat is kept for them for hours, and other pilgrims bathe before or after them at the ghats nearby. They are also the most crowded days of the whole mela. If you want to see the procession, plan for one of them and choose a stay you can walk from. If you want a quiet dip with children or elderly parents, any of the other seven snan days, or a weekday between them, gives you the same Ganga with far fewer people around you.

The weather from January to April

This Kumbh runs through Haridwar's whole winter and into spring. January and early February bring cold mornings, colder nights and fog, so the river is icy for a dawn dip and a heated room or warm bedding matters more than anything else. By March the days are mild, and by mid-April they are warm. Pack for the month you are going in, not for Haridwar in general.

Getting to the ghat on a snan day

  • Roads into the mela area close to vehicles, often from the night before a big snan; expect to walk the last few kilometres.
  • Leave before dawn: the ghats are calmest in the first hours of the day.
  • Agree a meeting point with your group in case you get separated, and keep your phone charged.
  • Carry ID, a little cash and a change of clothes, and leave valuables where you are staying.
