The Kumbh Mela Haridwar 2027 (14 January – 20 April 2027) is not only Har Ki Pauri. The mela area is split into 32 sectors, each with its own police post, hospital and sanitation, and it runs from Haridwar up the Rishikesh corridor. Most camps in Kumbh Mela are set up in four zones. Here is how they compare.

1. Bairagi Camp — the heart of the tent city

Bairagi Camp is the Kumbh's main tent-city ground, beside Kankhal. The akharas set up their camps here and the month-long Kalpwasi camps are here too, with new water tanks and tube wells being installed for them. Stay here if you want to be inside the Kumbh — the processions, bhajans and satsang go on around the clock.

2. Neel Dhara and Chandi Dweep — across the river from Har Ki Pauri

Neel Dhara is the wide main stream of the Ganga, opposite Har Ki Pauri and below Chandi Devi. The Namami Gange ghat here is usually calmer than Har Ki Pauri on snan days, a new cultural hub is being built near Divya Prem Mission Ashram, and the Chandi Devi ropeway is close by.

3. Daksh Dweep, Kankhal — parking, temples and new ghats

Daksh Dweep is in Kankhal, by the Daksh Mahadev temple. The Kumbh parking area is being built here with a bridge to Bairagi Camp, and 15 new ghats are coming up on the Mayapur escape channel between Bairagi Camp and Daksh Dweep. A good choice if you arrive by car, or if you plan pind daan and puja in Kankhal.

4. Rishikesh — the calmer end of the corridor

The Haridwar–Rishikesh corridor is part of the notified Kumbh area. In Rishikesh you bathe at Triveni Ghat, join the evening aarti and add yoga to your trip, then travel the 25 km to Haridwar for the big snan days (leave very early — roads into Haridwar are restricted).

Which zone should you pick?

  • First Kumbh, want the full experience: Bairagi Camp.
  • Quieter dip, near Har Ki Pauri: Neel Dhara.
  • Coming by car, or doing pind daan: Daksh Dweep, Kankhal.
  • Families wanting fewer crowds, yoga: Rishikesh.

What every sector has

Whichever zone you choose, the sector around your camp has its own police post, hospital and sanitation, set up by the mela administration for the whole Kumbh. Note your sector number when you arrive: it is how the police, the medical teams and your own family will find you.

With elderly parents or small children

Choose the shortest walk to water over everything else. Bairagi Camp and Neel Dhara put you closest to a ghat; Daksh Dweep suits a family arriving by car; Rishikesh is the calmest choice if you would rather not be in Haridwar's crowds at all. Tell the Kumbh desk who is travelling, and it will suggest a camp and a tent to match.
