Long Stays at a Kumbh Mela Camp: Kalpwas, Weeks by the Ganga
Planning a week, a fortnight or a month at the Haridwar Kumbh 2027? How long stays and Kalpwas work at a Kumbh Mela camp — choosing a tent, food, laundry, health and booking.

Quick answer: for a long stay at the Kumbh — a week, a fortnight or a full month of Kalpwas — choose a larger tent with an attached bathroom, agree meals and laundry with the camp in advance, and book as early as possible so the desk can hold the same tent for your whole stay. Long stays usually get a better per-night rate than a short trip. The Haridwar Ardh Kumbh runs from 14 January to 20 April 2027, so there is time for a long, unhurried stay around the snans that matter to you.

What is Kalpwas?
Kalpwas is the tradition of living by the sacred river for a month, keeping a simple routine of daily bathing, prayer, satsang and restrained food. It is most closely associated with Prayagraj's Magh Mela and Kumbh, but many pilgrims keep a similar discipline at the Haridwar Kumbh, staying for weeks rather than days. Whether or not you keep formal Kalpwas, a long stay changes the Kumbh: you see the mela on quiet days as well as the snan days, and you settle into its rhythm.
Choosing a tent for weeks, not nights
Space and the bathroom matter most. Our Royal tent is the usual choice for long stays — the largest, on a raised wooden deck with its own sit-out and a wood-panelled bathroom with a walk-in shower. Couples on a budget often choose a Luxury tent. Whatever you choose, insist on an attached bathroom with hot water; for a month, nothing matters more. See our tent types guide.
Food
Our camps serve sattvic vegetarian meals. If you keep a stricter routine — one meal a day, no onion or garlic, fasting days — tell the desk when you book so the kitchen can plan for it.
Laundry, supplies and daily needs
- Ask whether the camp offers laundry, or bring quick-dry clothes you can wash yourself.
- Carry a month's supply of any regular medicines, with prescriptions.
- Bring a small flask, a shawl for satsang, and a sturdy pair of slippers for the ghat.
- Keep some cash: networks slow down badly on snan days.
Staying well through winter
January and February nights fall to around 5°C. Warm bedding, thermals and woollens are essential, as is staying dry after the daily snan. Rest in the afternoons, drink enough water even in the cold, and skip the most crowded hour of an Amrit Snan if you are not feeling well. Our packing checklist covers clothing in detail.
Which camp for a long stay?
Bairagi Camp puts you among the akharas and Kalpwasis, in the thick of the mela. Neel Dhara is quieter, on the far bank facing Har Ki Pauri — good for a contemplative stay. Rishikesh adds yoga and ashram life.
Booking a long stay
Tell the Pulp Hotels Kumbh desk your arrival and departure dates, the tent you want and any food needs. The desk quotes the whole stay, holds the same tent for you, and you pay at the camp. See every camp on our Kumbh Mela camps page.
